                Equal Sharing

                Division means equal sharing.
Neha has 12 apples. She wants to share these apples equally among her 4 friends.

She starts by giving one apple to each of her friends.
She repeats this step till no apple is left.
No apple is left after the third step.
Each friend of Neha has 3 apples.

So, when 12 apples are distributed
among 4 friends, each friend gets

                This can be represented as:
                                   12 ÷ 4 = 3

Example 1. Soni has 21 flowers. She wants to put them into 7 vases.
How many flowers will Soni have to put in each vase?

Solution. She first puts 1 flower in each vase. She is left with 14 flowers.

Now, she puts 1 more flower in each vase. She is left with 7 flowers.

Finally, she puts 1 more flower in each vase. Now, there is no flower left with Soni.

                                   21 ÷ 7 = 3
                                   ↑ ↑ ↑
Number of Number of Number of flowers
                                flowers vases in each vase
Thus, Soni will have to put 3 flowers in each vase.

                                                                                                              89
